# Crane and Rigging for Industrial and Manufacturing

> HCW Crane Service handles machinery moves, equipment placement and rigging for light industrial and manufacturing sites around Lake Havasu City. Work is scheduled into the shutdown window rather than around it, and the owner rigs the load and runs the crane, so the plan made on the walk is the plan used on the night.

**TLDR:** In a plant the crane bill is small next to the downtime. We schedule into your window, move the machine, and set it on the same visit.

## Downtime Is the Number That Matters

In a plant, the crane is never the expensive part. The line being stopped is. Every hour a machine is out of the floor is production that does not exist, and that arithmetic decides everything about how the job gets planned.

So the schedule works backwards from when you need to be running again. If the window is a Saturday night, the lift is a Saturday night. Being open 24 hours is not a marketing line here, it is how this work actually gets done.

It also means we would rather spend an extra hour planning than discover a problem inside the window. A machine half out of a doorway at two in the morning is not a situation anyone recovers from quickly.

## Getting Machinery In and Out of a Building

The crane part is usually the simplest part. The hard questions are the door, the floor and the path. Whether the opening is wide enough with the skid on. Whether the slab between the door and the final position will carry it. Whether anything overhead is in the way once it is inside.

We walk that route before the day, in both directions, with a tape. Measuring a doorway is not glamorous work and it is the reason equipment moves finish inside their window.

Where the crane cannot reach the final position, the move becomes a combination. Crane to the doorway, then rollers, skates or your own material handling from there. Knowing which part is which before we start is the difference between a plan and an improvisation.

## Skids, Frames and Rigging Without Lifting Points

Industrial equipment often arrives with no practical way to lift it, or on a skid that was built for a loading dock and not for a crane. The answer is proper rigging from the frame: slings under the base, a spreader bar to keep the legs off the cabinet, and dunnage so the slings come out once it is down.

The same applies at the other end. The machine gets landed on its anchors or its levelling feet on the hook, and held there while your people shim and snug it, rather than dropped close and pushed.

Planning that rigging on the walk means the lift happens inside the window instead of stalling while somebody works out where to hook it.

## Our Process

1. **Walk the Route First.** Door width, slab, overhead clearance and the final position, measured rather than estimated. Photographs of the machine and its base help.
2. **Plan the Window Backwards.** From the time you need to be running again. Every step gets an honest duration, including the ones that are not the lift.
3. **Rig, Lift and Move.** Rigging planned around the frame where there are no lifting points, load trial lifted, and the machine moved in the sequence agreed rather than the one that seemed obvious at the time.
4. **Set, Level and Confirm.** Positioned on the marks, levelled, and anchored or framed as required. Your people sign off before the truck leaves.

## What Is Included

- Machinery removal, relocation and placement
- Equipment set through roof openings and dock doors
- Rigging from the frame when a machine has no lifting points
- Night, weekend and shutdown window scheduling
- Machines held on the hook while your crew levels and anchors them

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Can you work inside our shutdown window?

That is the normal arrangement. Nights and weekends are standard for this kind of work because the floor has to be clear and the line has to be down anyway.

### What if the crane cannot reach the final position?

Then the job becomes a crane move to the doorway and a ground move from there. We identify that split on the walk so nobody is inventing a solution mid-shift.

### Do you need drawings for the equipment?

Weight, dimensions and the location of the lifting points are what matter. If the machine has no proper lifting points it gets rigged from the frame, and a photo of the base lets us plan that before the move.

### Who is responsible for lockout and utilities?

Your people. We do not disconnect power, air or process lines. What we need is for that work to be finished before we set up so the crane is not sitting waiting.
