# Crane and Rigging for Planned Plant Maintenance

> HCW Crane Service supports planned maintenance work for plants and larger facilities around Lake Havasu City. Motors, gearboxes, fans and roof equipment are pulled and replaced inside a booked outage window, including nights and weekends, with the owner running every lift.

**TLDR:** Planned work has a window and a spare on a pallet. We book the outage, pull the unit, set the replacement, and hold it while your crew bolts it down.

## Planned Work Deserves a Planned Lift

The difference between a breakdown and a planned maintenance job is that on planned work everybody already knows what is happening. The spare is on a pallet, the outage is on a calendar, and the only real risk is a step that nobody sequenced.

The crane is often that step. It is booked last, scoped least, and it is the one piece of the plan with a hard physical constraint attached to it.

So we would rather be involved before the window is fixed than after. Ten minutes looking at the roof opening or the equipment path can move a shutdown by a day in the right direction.

## Pulling a Unit Out and Putting Its Replacement Back

A swap is two lifts and a gap, and the gap is where time disappears. The old unit comes out, then something happens on the ground that was not scheduled, and the crane holds position while it does.

Planning the swap properly means agreeing beforehand where the old unit lands, who is moving it, whether the replacement is already unpacked and rigged, and how long the mechanical work between the two lifts genuinely takes.

If the honest answer is four hours of bolt work between the pull and the set, that is worth knowing. It might mean two separate visits rather than one long one, and that is usually the cheaper plan.

## The Other Heavy Items Inside the Same Window

Maintenance work uncovers other lifts. A spare motor that has sat on a pallet since the last outage. A fan housing that has to come down so the crew can reach behind it. A skid of new parts that needs to go up onto a platform. A tank that has to move out of the way.

Those items collect on a list because there is never a good time to bring a crane in. An outage is that time, and the equipment is already stopped and locked out.

Tell us the whole list when the window is booked. The setup gets planned to reach as much of it as it safely can, so the list gets shorter during a window that was already booked.

## Our Process

1. **Scope Before the Window Is Fixed.** We look at the access, the roof opening or the equipment path early enough that the shutdown gets planned around reality.
2. **Agree the Sequence, Including the Gap.** Where the old unit lands, who moves it, and how long the work between the two lifts actually takes.
3. **Work the Outage.** Nights and weekends as required. Exclusion zone set, one signal person, and lifts run in the order agreed.
4. **Clear the Lift List.** Spares, housings and parts lifted while the equipment is still down and the crane is still set up.

## What Is Included

- Motor, gearbox, fan and pump removal and replacement
- Lifts through roof openings and equipment hatches
- Night, weekend and scheduled outage availability
- Staging and rigging of replacement units
- Extra lifts for spares, housings and parts in the same window

## Frequently Asked Questions

### How early should we book a maintenance lift?

Before the outage date is locked if possible. The crane has physical constraints that can change the plan, and finding those out after the window is published helps nobody.

### Can you do the pull and the set on separate days?

Often that is the better plan. If the mechanical work between them takes hours, holding a crane through it is expensive dead time. We will tell you honestly which arrangement makes more sense.

### Do you work nights and weekends?

Yes. We are available 24 hours and most planned maintenance work lands outside normal hours by nature, because that is when equipment can be down.

### Can you handle other lifts while the machine is stopped?

Yes, if they are on the list before the window. Spares, housings, skids and tanks within reach of the setup get lifted in the same outage rather than waiting for the next one.
