# Crane Support for Utility, Power and Telecom Crews

> HCW Crane Service provides lift support to contractors working on power and communications infrastructure around Lake Havasu City. Setups are planned so the boom never needs to approach an energized conductor, and enclosures, pads and cabinets are set and held until your crew has them fixed down.

**TLDR:** We support the contractors doing utility and telecom work. Clearance from energized lines is planned before the setup, never judged from the seat.

## We Support the Crews Who Do This Work

This is contractor support, not utility contracting. The people who call are the electrical contractors, the site crews and the equipment installers who have something heavy to place near infrastructure and need a machine and an operator to do it.

That distinction matters because it decides who is responsible for what. Your crew owns the electrical work, the permits and the coordination with the utility. We own the lift and the ground the truck is standing on.

Where the two meet is the plan, and that is worth building together rather than separately. The best setup position is often not the closest one.

## Clearance Sets the Plan Before Anything Else

Around energized conductors, distance is not a judgement call made from the operator's seat. It gets established before the truck sets up, and the setup position is chosen so the boom physically cannot reach into a space it should not be in.

Boom trucks are worked near overhead lines constantly in a town like this, because lines run down the front of most streets. The habit that keeps that safe is boring and absolute. Identify every conductor on the walk. Decide the boundary. Position so the load path never crosses it.

If a job cannot be done with proper clearance from where the truck can legally and safely sit, the answer is that it cannot be done that way. There is no version of this where we take a run at it and see.

## Pads, Enclosures and Poles

The lift is usually one step in a longer install. Equipment arrives and then it needs to sit on something, be fixed to something, or be protected by something.

Precast pads, cabinet enclosures, bollards and poles are all crane loads that tend to hold up an install because they were nobody's line item. They are heavy enough to need a machine and light enough that nobody planned one.

Tell us everything that has to go in when you book. The setup gets planned to reach as many of those pieces as it safely can, so they are placed on the same visit rather than scheduled as a separate return trip.

## Our Process

1. **Site Walk With Your Crew Lead.** Every overhead line identified, the setup boundary agreed, and the landing position confirmed on the ground before anything is scheduled.
2. **Position for Clearance, Not Convenience.** The truck goes where the boom can work the whole load path safely, even when that means more radius and less capacity.
3. **One Signal Person and a Closed Zone.** The area under the load stays clear. One person signals. Everyone else on the job stays outside the zone until the load is set.
4. **Hold and Handover.** The equipment stays on the hook while your crew fixes it down, then your crew confirms it sits where the install needs it.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Will you work close to overhead power lines?

We work near them the way everyone in this trade should, by identifying them first and positioning so the boom never has to approach one. Clearance is decided on the ground, before setup, not from the seat.

### Do you hold utility contracts?

No. We support the contractors and crews doing that work. It keeps the responsibilities clean and it is an honest description of what we do.

### Can you respond during an outage?

We are available 24 hours, so yes, subject to what is already booked. Tell us the access and the weight when you call and the answer comes faster.

### Who arranges any road or lane closure?

That belongs to the contractor or the property owner. What we will do is tell you exactly how much space the setup needs so the closure gets requested for the right footprint.
