# Condenser Unit Placement in Lake Havasu City

> A condenser is the outdoor half of a split system. It is relatively light but the condenser coil wraps most of the cabinet and bends easily. HCW lifts condensers over block walls into side yards, onto ground pads, and onto roofs, rigged so nothing bears on the coil.

**TLDR:** Condensers are light but fragile. The coil wraps the cabinet, so slings go through the base. Nothing ever bears on the fins.

## Light Load, Fragile Package

Weight is rarely the issue with a condenser. Access and damage are. The coil wraps around most of the cabinet, and aluminum fins fold under almost no pressure at all. A sling pulled tight across the side of the unit does real damage that shows up later as poor performance.

So the rigging goes through the base pan or the shipping pallet, with a spreader keeping the legs off the sides. On a unit still crated, we usually lift the crate. It is the cheapest coil protection available.

The other thing to protect is the service valve and the line set connections. Those stick out and they are the first thing to catch on a wall cap or a gate post on the way through.

New units usually arrive on a pallet with a cardboard sleeve over the coil. Leave that on as long as you can. It is the cheapest protection available and it takes ten seconds to remove once the unit is on the pad.

## Over the Wall Into a Side Yard

The typical Havasu condenser job is a walled side yard with a gate too narrow to get the unit through, or a slope on the far side that makes wheeling it in impossible. The crane picks it off the truck at the curb and drops it over the wall onto the pad.

Those side yards are tight, and the pad often sits within a foot or two of the block wall and the house. That is a precision set with almost no room for a swinging load, so tag lines go on and the approach is slow.

If the line set is already run, the unit has to land close to it in the right orientation. Setting it a foot off and rotated is a problem for the tech, so we ask where the lines come out before we plan the pick.

Clearance around the unit matters as well. Manufacturers specify how much space a condenser needs on each side for airflow and service, and a unit tucked hard against a block wall to make room for something else will run hot for the rest of its life.

## Our Process

1. **Check Pad and Orientation.** Where the pad sits, where the line set and disconnect are, and which way the unit has to face. Cleared before the unit leaves the truck.
2. **Rig Off the Base.** Slings through the base pan or under the pallet, spreader bar above so nothing bears on the coil or the cabinet sides.
3. **Over the Wall.** Tag lines on, slow lift over the block wall, and a controlled descent into the side yard with a spotter who can see the pad and the wall.
4. **Set and Confirm.** Lowered onto the pad in the correct orientation, then held in the rigging until the installer confirms placement and clearance.

## What Is Included

- Crane and operator for over-the-wall and rooftop condenser sets
- Rigging through the base pan or pallet, never across the coil
- Spreader bar to keep sling legs clear of the cabinet
- Tag lines for tight side yard descents
- Orientation matched to the existing line set and disconnect
- Old unit removed from the pad on the same visit if needed

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Can you lift a condenser still in its crate?

Usually, and it is the best protection for the coil. Confirm the crated weight and whether the installer wants it uncrated on the pad or before the pick.

### Will the crane damage the coil fins?

Not with correct rigging. Damage comes from slings pulled across the sides of the cabinet. We rig through the base with a spreader so nothing touches the coil.

### My side yard gate is too narrow. Is that a crane job?

That is exactly the job. We pick the unit at the curb and set it over the block wall onto the pad. It is quick and it beats taking a gate and a section of fence apart.

### Can you take the old condenser out at the same time?

Yes. Old unit out first, new unit in, from one setup. Tell us where you want the old one, whether that is a truck, a trailer, or the driveway.
