Mobile Crane Service in Desert Hills

2 min readUpdated July 2026

Desert Hills sits five road miles from our Lake Havasu City yard, which makes it the easiest dispatch we have. The parcels out here are large and the buildings are different from town: shops, steel carports, well houses, containers and equipment. Access is usually a long dirt drive rather than a curbed street.

Different Buildings, Different Problems

Desert Hills is not town. The lots are big, the houses are spread out, and a lot of what needs lifting is not a house at all. Steel shop buildings, RV covers, well houses, water tanks, containers, generators and equipment that has been sitting in a yard for years and now has to move.

That changes the job in a good way and a bad way. The good way is room. There is usually space to spread outriggers properly and to pick from a sensible radius instead of crowding a wall. The bad way is surface. Nobody paved the approach, and what looks like packed desert can be soft where a wash runs through it.

  • Steel building components, trusses and purlins
  • Water tanks, well heads, pumps and column pipe
  • Shipping containers and container placement
  • Standby generators and fuel tanks
  • Tractors, attachments and yard equipment moving
  • Delivery trucks unloaded at the shop door

Getting Down the Driveway

The limiting factor out here is almost always the approach, not the lift. A boom truck is heavy, long and does not reverse well in soft sand. Some Desert Hills driveways run several hundred feet off the pavement, cross a wash, pass through a gate and end in a turnaround that was sized for a pickup.

So the first question we ask is not what the load weighs. It is whether the truck can get in, get level and get back out. A photo taken standing at the mailbox looking in tells us most of it. If the drive will not take the truck, there is usually a setup point closer to the road that still reaches, because reach is the one thing we have plenty of.

Wells, Septic and Buried Surprises

Rural parcels come with infrastructure that town lots do not. Septic tanks and leach fields, well casings, buried propane, water lines to a stock tank. None of that is marked and most of it is only known to the owner. An outrigger pad on a septic lid is an expensive afternoon.

Point out what you know before we set up. If you do not know where the tank is, say that too, and we will keep the setup on the driveway or on ground you can vouch for.

Distance and Dispatch

Desert Hills is 5 road miles from our yard at 850 London Bridge Rd in Lake Havasu City. That is measured by road, not straight line, because the road distance is what actually decides how a day gets scheduled. Inside our closest dispatch band. Same day is usually workable when the schedule allows.

  • Five road miles from the yard. If the morning is open we can normally be there the same day.
  • Large rural parcels rather than subdivisions. Shops, steel buildings, well houses and equipment yards.
  • Most driveways are dirt or graded gravel and some run several hundred feet off the pavement.
  • Washes cut across some access roads. After a monsoon storm a driveway that was fine last week may not be.
  • Wells, septic and propane are common on these lots. All three are things to locate before an outrigger goes down.

How the job runs

Our Process

  1. Step 1: Photo from the road

Stand at the entrance and take a picture looking in. That single photo answers gate width, drive surface, turnaround and overhead in one go.

  2. Step 2: Talk through the ground

Where the septic is, where the well is, whether the wash crossed the drive in the last storm. Rural sites hide things and the owner is the only one who knows.

  3. Step 3: Choose the setup point

Sometimes it is right beside the load. Sometimes it is out by the road working at long radius. We pick the position that is safe for the ground rather than the one that is convenient.

  4. Step 4: Lift, set and clear out

Load goes where it needs to go. A container, a tank and a trailer load can all go on the same visit rather than becoming a second trip.

Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you get out to Desert Hills today?

Often yes. It is five road miles from the yard, so travel is not the obstacle. Whether we can come today depends on what is already booked.

My driveway is dirt and about a quarter mile long. Is that a problem?

Not automatically. What matters is the surface, the width and whether there is anywhere to turn around. Send a photo from the road and we will tell you before anyone drives out.

Can you set a shipping container on my lot?

Yes, within the truck's capacity and given a workable setup position. Container weight varies a lot depending on what is inside, so give us the real number, not the empty weight.

Do you pull well pumps?

We provide the crane and the rigging for the lift, working with your well company on the pull. Column pipe and pumps come out long and heavy, so setup position matters more than usual.

What if a wash washed out my access road?

Then we find a setup point on the good side and reach. With 142 feet available we can often work from further back rather than risking a truck in soft ground.

Ready to schedule your lift?

Tell us the load, the site and the timing. We will confirm capacity, access and a window.
