Mobile Crane Service Across Mohave County

3 min readUpdated July 2026

HCW Crane Service covers the southern and western half of Mohave County from a yard in Lake Havasu City. That takes in Kingman, Bullhead City, Fort Mohave, Mohave Valley, Golden Shores, Topock, Golden Valley, Yucca, Oatman, Chloride and the communities between them. How far out you are decides how the job gets scheduled.

How Far We Go and Why It Matters

Mohave County is one of the largest counties in the country. Claiming to cover all of it would be a lie, so here is the honest version. We are based in Lake Havasu City and we work outward from there along AZ-95 and Interstate 40. The practical range is around a hundred road miles, and inside that range the distance decides how the job gets booked rather than whether it gets done.

The part of the county north of the Grand Canyon is a different matter. Colorado City, Beaver Dam and Littlefield are all Mohave County, and they are all more than 230 road miles from here because the only way there runs up through Nevada and Utah. Anyone claiming county wide coverage is either not thinking about that or hoping you are not.

The Three Dispatch Tiers

Everything we do runs on drive time, so we sort the county into three tiers and we tell customers which one they are in.

Tier one is under 35 road miles. Lake Havasu City, Desert Hills, Crystal Beach, Topock and Golden Shores. Same day is usually workable if the morning is open, and an emergency call has a real chance of being answered the same afternoon.

Tier two is 35 to 60 road miles. Yucca, Mohave Valley, Willow Valley, Arizona Village, Fort Mohave, Oatman and Kingman. Same day is possible but it depends on the day's schedule. Give us a day or two of notice and it is straightforward.

Tier three is 60 to 100 road miles. Bullhead City, New Kingman-Butler, Golden Valley, Valle Vista, Chloride and Dolan Springs. Those get booked. They also work far better when two or three jobs in the same area go on the same trip, so if you know of other work nearby, tell us.

  • Tier 1, under 35 miles: same day usually workable
  • Tier 2, 35 to 60 miles: depends on the day's schedule
  • Tier 3, 60 to 100 miles: booked ahead, better in batches

The County Is Not One Climate

There is close to three thousand feet of elevation difference between the river bottom and the high country around Kingman and Valle Vista. In July that difference decides what time of day work is safe. On the river we start at first light and try to be done by mid morning. Up around Kingman and the Cerbat foothills we can often work a full day.

It reverses in winter. Kingman gets frost, cold steel and the occasional snow day while Havasu is in shirtsleeves. Monsoon season, roughly July into September, hits everywhere and is the one thing that reliably cancels overhead work anywhere in the county.

Routes and the Traps in Them

Straight line distance is close to useless out here. The routes follow the river and the interstate, and anything that is not on one of them takes longer than the map says. The most important example is Oatman. A car gets there in 53 miles over Sitgreaves Pass. A boom truck cannot, because vehicles over 40 feet are prohibited on that pass, so the crane route goes around by the interstate and Bullhead City and is substantially longer.

That is exactly the kind of thing we would rather explain up front than discover on the day. When you call, tell us the town and we will tell you the real route, the real drive and the tier it falls into.

How the job runs

Our Process

  1. Step 1: Tell us where you are

The town matters as much as the job. It sets the tier, the route and the realistic window before we talk about anything else.

  2. Step 2: Describe the load and the site

Weight, size, landing point and what the approach looks like. A couple of photos from the road removes most of the guesswork.

  3. Step 3: Pick a slot that fits the distance

Close in, we may be able to come today. Further out, we book a day and hold it. We would rather quote you a real window than an optimistic one.

  4. Step 4: Group the outlying work

For tier three towns, two or three jobs on one trip is a better day for everybody. If your neighbour or your other site needs the same thing, mention it.

Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you cover all of Mohave County?

No, and nobody based here really does. We cover the southern and western part, roughly a hundred road miles out from Lake Havasu City. The Arizona Strip north of the canyon is over 230 road miles away and we do not go there.

What is the furthest you normally travel?

Around a hundred road miles. That takes in Dolan Springs, Chloride, Valle Vista and Quartzsite at the far edge. Beyond that a boom truck is two hours of mobilisation each way and it becomes a special arrangement.

Can you come to Kingman and Bullhead City on the same day?

Sometimes, if the work is small and the timing lines up. They are on different routes from here, so it depends on what each job needs.

Why can a car get to Oatman faster than your crane?

Because Sitgreaves Pass on the Oatman Highway bans vehicles over 40 feet. The 40 ton truck is well over that, so it takes the longer route by the interstate and Bullhead City.

Do you work in California?

No. We run Arizona work only. That includes Topock, which sits in Arizona even though it uses a California ZIP code.

Will you drive further for a small lift?

Sometimes. A single small pick at the edge of the range is a hard trip to justify on its own, so we look for other work nearby to pair it with. Tell us what you need and where and we will give you a straight answer.

Ready to schedule your lift?

Tell us the load, the site and the timing. We will confirm capacity, access and a window.
