Crane Support for Facility Managers and Maintenance
2 min readUpdated July 2026

Facility managers in Lake Havasu City call HCW Crane Service when equipment failure threatens operations. Lifts get scheduled around tenants and trading hours, often overnight, and the site walk and finished placement are photographed so the work can be recorded in the building file without guesswork later.
A Dead Unit Is a Business Problem Before It Is a Repair
When a rooftop unit quits over a dining room in August, nobody in your building is thinking about compressors. They are thinking about whether they can open. The clock you are running is a revenue clock, and the crane is somewhere in the middle of it.
That is why the first question we ask is not what the unit weighs. It is when the building can afford to have a crane in the way, and how long you have before the loss stops being a nuisance.
Open 24 hours means the answer can be two in the morning. A pick made between closing and opening is invisible to your tenants and your customers, and it usually costs less disruption than any daytime slot.
Working Around Tenants, Parking and Trading Hours
A crane on a commercial property occupies more than a parking space. The outrigger footprint, the swing radius and the exclusion zone underneath the load all have to be closed to foot traffic while the boom is up.
On a multi-tenant property that means we need to know which doors are in use, where deliveries land, and which spaces belong to whom. We would rather cone off the right area at five in the morning than argue with a delivery driver at nine.
Fire lanes and hydrants are the other constraint we plan around rather than discover. If the only workable setup blocks one, we say so before the day, not on it.
What You Can Put in the File
Facility work generates paperwork. Somebody upstairs is going to ask what was done, when, and whether the new equipment sits where it should. Six months later, nobody remembers.
So we photograph the setup, the existing condition before we touch anything, and the finished placement. You get those, and you can file them against the work order without reconstructing the day from memory.
It also protects both of us. A photo of a roof curb before the lift is the fastest way to settle a question about damage that was already there.
The Other Heavy Items Facilities Keep Needing
Every property has a running list of heavy things that need moving. A storage container that has to go to the back of the lot. A replacement sign cabinet. A light pole knocked over by a delivery truck. A generator or a transformer pad that is finally ready.
Most of those are crane work that nobody thinks of as crane work. If the truck is already booked for a rooftop unit, the list can get cleared on a visit that was already happening, instead of waiting for a separate approval.
Tell us what else is on the list when you book. The owner who runs the crane plans the setup to reach as many of them as it safely can.
How the job runs
Our Process
Step 1: Tell Us the Window, Not Just the Job
When can the building spare the space. That decides more about the plan than the weight of the equipment does.
Step 2: Site Walk and Setup Plan
Where the truck sits, what gets coned, which doors stay usable, and whether the roof access and the ground path are clear.
Step 3: The Lift, Usually Off Hours
Exclusion zone closed, one signal person, load flown clear of the parapet and set. Traffic on the property stays outside the zone the whole time.
Step 4: Photos and Handover
Before condition, setup and finished placement, sent to you. The lot reopens the way it was found.

Answers
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you work overnight so we do not close?
Yes. Overnight is often the cleanest slot on a commercial property because the lot is empty and the exclusion zone bothers nobody. We are available 24 hours and night work is normal, not an exception.
How much of the parking lot do you need?
More than people expect. The truck is the smallest part. The outriggers spread wide and the ground under the load has to stay clear. We mark the area on the walk so you can tell tenants in advance.
Will you provide photos for our records?
Yes, and we take them whether you ask or not. Condition before, the setup, and the finished placement. It is the simplest way to close out a work order honestly.
Can you set a light pole or sign while you are here?
Yes, if the setup reaches it. Poles and sign cabinets are light for their height, so the rigging and a tag line matter more than the capacity. Your electrician handles the wiring. The crane holds it plumb while it gets bolted down.
What if the roof access is the only way to the unit?
We look at that on the walk. Roof hatch size, ladder condition and the path across the roof matter as much as the pick. If your access will not work, better to know before the equipment is on a truck.
How fast can you respond to a failure?
Often the same day, and we answer the phone at night. What speeds it up most is having the equipment details ready, because that decides which truck we bring.
