Over Structure Placement Examples
1 min readUpdated July 2026

Over-structure placement means the load travels above a building or a wall on its way to the pad. Nothing about it is exotic, but everything under the load path has to be considered, including people, and the boom's swing arc matters as much as the load's position.
Planning the load path
The question is not only whether the crane can reach the pad. It is what the load passes over on the way, and whether it clears with margin at every point of the swing.
Roof pitch, a patio cover, a chimney, a solar array and the overhead service drop to the house are the usual obstacles. The service drop is the one people forget, and it is the one that matters most.
Nobody under the load
An exclusion zone under the path is not a formality. On a residential job the people most likely to stand in the wrong place are the homeowner and a curious neighbor, and both of them need to be told once, clearly, before the pick starts.
We say it out loud at the briefing and we mean it. If someone walks into the zone the lift stops until they are out of it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is lifting over a house safe?
It is routine when it is planned. The load path is checked for clearance, the swing arc is checked, and nobody stands underneath.
What if there are power lines to the house?
That is a planning item. Minimum approach distances are set by voltage and the whole lift is planned around them, including where the boom swings.
Do I need to move anything first?
Usually vehicles, patio furniture and anything fragile under the path. We will tell you what specifically when we look at the site.
More Project Types
- Over-Structure PlacementFlying a load over a house, a garage, or a block wall. Ridge clearance, a blind descent on the far side, and a spotter running the last stage.
- Power Line Clearance PlanningPower line clearance planning in Lake Havasu City. Minimum approach distance, full swing path clearance and utility coordination settled before a crane sets up.
- Spa PlacementA spa carries its weight in the shell, not the cabinet. Sling placement, a cured level pad, and equipment bay orientation are what make the set work.
- HVAC and Mechanical LiftsHow we set rooftop package units, air handlers and condensers in Lake Havasu City, including a documented commercial unit swap.
- Truss and Structural WorkHow we sequence roof truss sets, beams and structural members with framing crews in Lake Havasu City and Mohave County.
- Spa and Residential LiftsHow we place spas and hot tubs over block walls and structures in Lake Havasu City backyards without damaging the property.
- Industrial and Equipment PlacementHow we set generators, machinery, tanks and commercial equipment in Lake Havasu City and across Mohave County.
- Rigging and Construction Lift JobsHow we rig and set containers, machinery, roofing loads, solar racking, signs, poles, boats and boulders in Lake Havasu City and Mohave County.
- Tight Access ProjectsHow we work narrow lots, side yards and restricted setups in Lake Havasu City where a standard setup will not fit.
