Crane Service at The Refuge, Lake Havasu City

1 min readUpdated July 2026

The Refuge is a golf course community on the south side of Lake Havasu City. Streets are wide and lots are generous, which makes setups easy, but turf, cart paths and irrigation lines run right alongside the properties. Those are what we plan around rather than the lift itself.

Easy Streets, Delicate Surroundings

Setting up at The Refuge is not the hard part. The streets are wide and there is normally room to spread outriggers on solid pavement. What takes the planning is everything on the course side of the property, because turf, irrigation and cart paths are all easy to damage and expensive to repair.

Cart paths in particular catch people out. They are thin concrete poured for golf carts, not for a point load from a crane. If a setup position touches one, it gets padded properly or we move the truck.

Working Alongside the Course

Backyards here often open onto the course, which changes how a lift lands. There may be no wall to go over, but there is also nowhere to stand a load down temporarily, and any rigging that swings out over turf needs controlling all the way through.

Irrigation is the other consideration. Heads and lateral lines run shallow under grass that looks like ordinary lawn. If the landing point or the setup point is anywhere near them, we want to know before the pads go down rather than after a line lets go.

  • Rooftop and package HVAC changeouts
  • Spas and hot tubs onto rear patios
  • Patio covers, shade structures and pergola steel
  • Generators and mechanical equipment
  • Boulders and landscape features set without crossing turf

Local Access Notes

These are the things that actually decide how a lift runs in The Refuge. We check them before quoting rather than discovering them on the day. Our yard is 8 road miles away on 850 London Bridge Rd.

  • Streets and lots are generous, so the setup itself is usually straightforward.
  • Turf, cart paths and irrigation lines sit immediately behind or beside many properties.
  • Cart paths are thin concrete built for golf carts. They will not carry an outrigger without proper padding.
  • Irrigation heads and lateral lines are shallow and unmarked. Ground that looks like plain lawn often is not.
  • Community expectations mean early starts and short, tidy occupations of the street.

How the job runs

Our Process

  1. Step 1: Identify what is behind the property

Course, turf, cart path or open ground. That is the first question here, because it decides the load path and the setup position.

  2. Step 2: Locate the irrigation

Shallow lines and heads run under what looks like plain grass. If you know where they are, tell us. If not, we keep pads on hard surface.

  3. Step 3: Schedule early and short

Early starts suit the community and the heat. We plan a tidy, brief occupation of the street rather than a full day parked out front.

  4. Step 4: Land it under control

With no wall to clear there is still nowhere to set a load down halfway. The lift is controlled from pick to landing with a spotter watching the rear.

Answers

Frequently Asked Questions

Will you damage the turf or the cart path?

Not if we plan it. Cart paths are thin concrete and turf hides irrigation, so we set up on the street where we can and pad heavily where we cannot.

My backyard opens onto the course. Is that easier?

The clearance is easier because there is no wall. The control is harder because there is nowhere to set a load down partway. We rig for a single controlled landing.

Can you work early to avoid disturbing neighbours?

Yes, and we prefer it. Early starts suit the community, the golfers and the summer heat all at once.

Do I need to tell the community office?

It is worth checking. If there are rules about hours or street use, we will work to them, but you will get a smoother day if the office knows in advance.
